“Cat food recall includes N.J.”

For those who uses Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball :

Diamond Pet Foods recalled select bags of dry cat food today after 21 reports of health problems in cats.Select bags of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball could lead to gastrointestinal or neurological problems for cats, because they do not contain enough thiamine, an essential nutrient for cats.

If cats fed these foods have no other source of nutrition, they could develop thiamine deficiency. If untreated, this disorder could result in death.

Initial symptoms of thiamine deficiency include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. Later, neurological problems could develop including, bending the neck toward the floor, wobbly walking, circling, falling and seizures.

The company has confirmed 21 cases of thiamine deficiency in New York and Pennsylvania.

The recalled bags of food were distributed in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

The Sit and Stare

It usually mean they want something. That oh so intent stare as if they KNOW you can read their thoughts, but really you can’t. Whether it is because they want out of the room,  in the room, outside, need to go mom, MOM MOM MOM, it’ll frustrate you. You try and stare back, pretending that you are the ‘pack leader’ but instead, you try every possible thing to get them to stop staring.

“I just took you outside and you didn’t want to go!”, “I gave you massive amounts of pets where it resulted in me coated with fur!”, “Do you want a treat?!”, “WHAT WHAT WHAT?!”

Then you start threatening them with evil things like brushing them, turning on the vacuum, perhaps a bath will stop the staring though both of you know fully well you are way too lazy to do either of those things.

Then they walk away, satisfied that they’ve accomplished in annoying the crap out of you because they KNOW HOW TO PUSH YOUR DAMN BUTTONS!

Premium Edge, Wysong, & Nutro Pet Food Recall

These brands have pet food recalls and if you buy from them, return the food to the store! Most pet stores do give exchanges or refunds.

Three brands of pet food have been recalled in recent days including two kinds of dog food and one of cat food. Premium Edge recalled two varieties of cat food after some pets became sick. The foods were found to be lacking in Thiamine, also known as Vitamin B1. Symptoms displayed by the affected cats were “neurological in nature,” according to the company’s press release, including tremors and weakness. The recalled foods were Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat (RAF0501A22X 18lb., RAF0501A2X 6 lb.) and Premium Edge Hairball (RAH0501A22X 18 lb., RAH0501A2X 6lb.)

The dog food recalls were made by Wysong and Nutro. Wysong recalled five lots of dry dog food made in June and July because it was contaminated with mold. Wysong, which sells “natural” pet products said the problem with the food “stems from unusually high heat and humidity on those summer dates … combined with a malfunctioning moisture checking device.” The recalls includes Wysong Maintenance (lots 090617, 090624, 090706, 090720) and Wysong Senior (lot 090623).

Nutro recalled three kinds of puppy chow that may contain pieces of a plastic hard hat that fell into the production line. The food was distributed through Petco and Petsmart stores in the West and included Nutro Ultra (UPC 79105 51313, 4.5 lb. and UPC 79105 51315, 30 lb.) and Nutro Natural Choice Chicken Meal, Rice and Oatmeal Formula Small Bites Puppy (UPC# 79105 23050, 5 lb.)

I has a Hot Dog – Shiba Style!

No matter how many times I’ve watched this, I end up cracking up. Check out other hilarious shibas at http://ihasahotdog.com/tag/shiba-inu/ . They even got a cute little icon for shibas!

‘Can I pet your dogs?’

Walking around with two shibas attracts a lot of little grubby hands and the occasional non-little hands. Usually it’s the kids that DON’T ask and goes for it. It’s a big no no in my book since Jada is a scaredy cat and has a tendency to flight, then bark courageously behind me which scares a lot of people being that she’s a whole 20 pounds. Pongy is more hand friendly but sudden moves makes her think you are playing the ‘avoid capture!’ game.

Truly, I wish my dogs were more human friendly. I wish people could go up to them and pet them till they are bald. However, I don’t always get what I want! Definitely ask the owner if you can pet their dogs! It is a bit different at a dog park where you can tell certain dogs just WANT AFFECTION. They come up next to you and does the cat touch all around your body, demanding a pet. It is another thing when YOU see a cute, adorable looking dog and running after it so you can pet it.

So to summarize: Don’t. pet. my. dogs. unless I give the okay or my dogs do. Here’s some obvious signs that a dog is friendly:

1. They approach you, sticking their head into your hand.

2. They do a circle butt sit right on your feet.

3. The figure eight around your legs. Yah, dogs do it too.

Those are sure tell signs that they want your affection. Otherwise, scram!

I was walking the dogs the other day and an old man came up to me and inquired about my dogs. He started off with introducing himself as a dog sitter and knew my dogs are of ‘japanese’ breed immediately. Then he went onto the inevitable question,  “Did you buy or adopt them? And how much?” I sputtered and answered honestly: I bought my dogs and they were about 500 per. He didn’t give me a shameful glare as most dog lovers would and just said, “they are definitely worth every penny.”

I still felt guilty about it after wards, thinking how irresponsible of me to buy a dog when there’s plenty in the shelter. It led me back to the beginning of it all.

Ear Cropped Gone Wrong

Due to the gory-ness of this picture, I’m going to make people click inside the entry to see it.

I’ve never seen the need for cropped ears regardless of breed until recently. I read something in the Nihon Ken forum where one of the reasons for cropped ears is that it prevents a particular type of breed from allowing their ears to freeze. If it is done properly and purely for the benefit of the dog, fine. But if it is done out of aesthetics and you have NO FREAKING IDEA how to do it, DON”T CROP YOUR DOG’S EARS.

Sadly, Nora did not receive proper care after getting her ears cropped.
