Good luck with everything! As for the GF1 - don't look at it as a point & shoot. It is a compact DSLR. I have been using it for a few months now and it has become my favorite camera. It is with me ALWAYS - something I cannot say with my D700. Image quality is very comparable to DSLRs as well up to ISO 400. Video with autofocus is a plus.
